Mulah councilman Ibrahim Latheef said that it had been more than two days since residents of Sosunge – situated near the center of the main road – reported the ground to the right side of the main door of the house being warm.
“Council members and the residents of the house went there and dug into the ground when they reported. We felt the heat rise in waves. So we called Fenaka to check if it was an electricity issue. But we dug the place and found nothing connecting it to an electricity issue,” said Latheef.
He said that police had sealed off the area until further instruction from the military and Maldives National Disaster Center.
“We are working on shifting the residents of the house elsewhere, either to relatives’ or a guesthouse,” said Latheef.
