Lawsuit filed against Leader of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), the former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom by three members of the party's Parliamentary Group has been retracted, even though it had already been accepted by Civil Court.
The three PPM lawmakers who filed the lawsuit are: Hulhudhoo MP Mohamed Shahid, Naifaru MP Ahmed Shiyam, and Dhaandhoo MP Ahmed Assad.
The lawsuit they filed said that Maumoon had frozen the party’s official bodies in violation of PPM Constitution, and requested that court put a stop to his reform agenda.
MP Shahid spoke to “Sun” on Thursday and said that they made the decision to retract the lawsuit after Maumoon loosened his control over the official bodies of PPM.
“I heard that the party’s leader Maumoon said last night that he wants to put a stop to the hold over the party bodies and loosen the grip. That he gave permission for committee meetings. We therefore do not feel there is much use of bringing it to trial,” said Shahid.
Maumoon sent a text message to all chairs of PPM committees on Wednesday night asking that committee work be carried out as usual as per PPM constitution.
