President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has decided to make July 28 a non-working day, meaning that civil service employees will be able to enjoy a 5-day break, this Independence Day holiday.
Independence Day – July 26, and the day next to it – July 27 are public holidays each year. But the President has decided to make July 28 a non-working day as well, meaning that all civil servants get an uninterrupted 5-day break this year.
July 29 and July 30 fall on a Friday and Saturday – the weekend, while July 26 and July 27 fall on a Tuesday and Wednesday.
President’s Office announced this Tuesday that July 28 – Thursday – would also be made a non-working day so that civil servants can enjoy full 5 days of holiday.
Government offices will open again after holiday on July 31 – Sunday.
An official from President’s Office who spoke to “Sun” said that no day in the weekend would be made a working day to make up for allowing July 28 to be made a non-working day.
