Maldives Police Service has said they would put a stop attempts made to penalize individual officers performing their duty as instructed by the Service.
MPS released a press statement of Monday, in which they said that some parties had threatened to press charges against individual officers for actions taken in the course of their duty.
The statement comes after Maldives United Opposition warned MPS that they would press the issue of individual officers who prevented people from participating in legal political activities to National Integrity Commission.
MUO also said that they would press charges against two officers who sent away senior members of the Opposition when they tried to meet with reporters in front of Muliaage on Sunday.
MPS said that there was already system in place at MPS Headquarters to monitor actions taken by officers during course of their official duty.
They said that MPS would take responsibility for action taken by all officers performing their duty as per instructions by MPS.
MPS service said in their statement that some parties were trying to single out specific officers for charges, and create a negative image of police officers in the community.
They said that they would put a stop to efforts made to create division within police ranks, and that MPS would remain steadfast in fulfilling their duty to the people.
