Prosecutor General’s Office has submitted the DNA report done on pistol found in Minister Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim’s apartment, which shows traces of former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor’s DNA, to court.
Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham has provided confirmation that the DNA report was submitted to court last Thursday.
Bisham said that the report was being reviewed by PG Office as well.
Speaking during the press conference held after Adeeb’s DNA was found on the pistol,
Assistant Commissioner of Police Abdulla Nawaz said that additional investigations were being carried out based on the new evidence.
Nazim’s lawyer, Husnu Suood has said that Nazim was framed by Adeeb and former Commissioner of Police Hussein Waheed.
He said that a police officer named “Asif” had planted the pistol in Nazim’s apartment as per their instructions.
When questioned whether police had found any evidence to support Suood’s claim, Nawaz said that lawyers had shared no such information with police, and that it was up to the court to decide whether Nazim was framed or not.
Hearings in the case had been completed, with the verdict still pending.
The case is at the last stage of appeal after High Court ruled to uphold the 11-year jail sentence by Criminal Court for import and possession of a lethal weapon.
