Ministry of Housing and Environment starts training program for building inspectors

Ministry of Housing Environment has begun a training program to train building inspectors for the Maldivian construction industry, in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Institute of Construction and Development.

Sessions of the program are being conducted at SHE Building, Malé, and according to the Ministry, the program shall go on for a period of four days.

Speaking in the ceremony held today to begin the program, Dr. Mohamed Shareef, Minister of State for Housing and Environment, said that training of building inspectors for the Maldivian construction industry was of utmost importance. He said that supervisors at construction sites usually observe whether work is carried on as per the architectural plans, although it was equally important to check whether construction projects were conducted in a way that is not detrimental to environment.

Speaking in the opening ceremony, an instructor of the program said that the program would shed light on three major issues. The first was that of ensuring that construction projects were executed in an environment-friendly manner. Secondly, the issue of carrying out work in a way that does not overburden workers would be dealt with. Thirdly, participants would be instructed on how to work with cooperation with all parties in the construction industry.
