Confrontation turned violent near Supreme Court, two arrested

A confrontation between the Police and people gathered near the Supreme Court, as the trial against Hussain Humam proceeds for the murder of Dr. Afrasheem Ali proceeds, has turned violent leading to two arrests.

People gathered in the area include the family and friends of Humam.

The member of the MDP Parliamentary Group, Evaa Abdulla is also among the people gathered in the area.

Two people have been arrested in the confrontations that took place when the Police attempted to push back the crowd according to Sun Media journalists in the area.

As Humam’s trial is proceeding at the Supreme Court, the trial against the former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb is proceeding at the Criminal Court. The case at the Criminal Court is the embezzlement of the USD 5 million as acquisition cost to develop Lhaviyani Maabinhuraa as a tourist resort by the former Vice President Adheeb and then Managing Director of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Abdulla Ziyath. Haamid Ismail (M. Shuraamanzil) is also implicated in the crime.
