The family of the former MP for Ungoofaaru constituency, Dr. Afrasheem Ali, has said that they do not want a death sentence for Hussain Humam Ahmed, who has been sentenced to death by the Criminal Court for the murder of Dr. Afrasheem.
A letter from the family sent to the Supreme Court signed by the former MP’s father, Ali Zafir and the brother, Abdul Naasir Ali says that they don’t want the death sentence because the investigation of the crime has not been completed.
The letter said that according to the proceedings of the case, Police has said that there is an unidentified group of people who planned and funded the murder. And so with a lot of doubt regarding who they are and the information learned about them in the investigation and because of the help from Humam required to find those involved, they do not want the death sentence on Humam before they are found and the investigation is completed.
The letter was not accepted by the Supreme Court when the father of the slain MP Ali Zafir and the brother, Abdul Naasir Ali went personally to the court. It was not accepted because it was not the official hours.
