Nasheed accorded powers within MDP in new resolution

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has presented a resolution to accord several powers within the party to former President Mohamed Nasheed, in his capacity as the presidential candidate of MDP.

The resolution was submitted to MDP national management committee by Manadhoo MP Mohamed Thorig, and supported by Dhiddhoo MP Ahmed Sameer. Yesterday’s committee meeting, where the resolution was passed, was chaired by Nasheed and attended by 28 members.

Nasheed received votes of more than 31,000 MDP members in the election. The resolution allows him to create committees to do everything necessary for the presidential campaign.

The resolution also states that information on his work in this regard should be communicated to MDP national management committee and MDP national council.

Further issues discussed at today’s meeting include how to strengthen party membership, expanding activities in all islands, and establishing party offices in Colombo and Trivandrum. The Committee is made up of the MDP leadership, MDP cabinet members, MDP members of Parliament, the General Secretary and Deputy General Secretary.
