Ministry says hajj companies that charged extra will be reported

Ministry of Islamic Affairs has said that hajj companies who pilgrims inform them of taking more money than the rate set by ministry for hajj pilgrimage will be reported to police.

A senior official of Ministry of Islamic Affairs spoke to “Sun” on Tuesday and said that no one had sent such a complaint to the ministry in writing, as was required.

The official said that anyone with such information needed to send a letter of complaint to the ministry along with the receipt.

“Send us proof, with payment receipts. We will report it to police,” said the official.

However, hajj companies that take extra money do not give payment receipts to customers.

Eight private hajj companies have been given 80-person quotas each for hajj pilgrimage in 2016.

The ministry set the rates at: MVR 57,999 at the lowest, MVR 65,000 for on average, and MVR 112,129 for a VIP package.

There have been reports of hajj companies taking extra money from pilgrims despite it being prohibited.
