Capital Punishment to be carried out in Maldives via hanging

Home Minister Umar Naseer has said that a death sentenced would be carried out by hanging in 30 days after the Supreme Court passes a death sentence.

Speaking on a program on Al Kaun TV Channel, Minister Umar said that the government is ready to carry out death sentences and the resources to carry out the sentence have also been established.

The Home Minister said that the initial choice to carry out a death sentence was lethal injection and a law on it was also made. But with some problems carrying it out, a decision was made to carry out the sentence by hanging and the relevant amendments to the law have been made.

And so the Home Minister Umar said that the death sentence would be carried out in the Maldives by hanging. And the sentence would be carried out within 30 days after the Supreme Court makes the final ruling.
