Employment Tribunal has ruled that Immigration was right in firing their employee – Qasim Moosa (Big Fish, Th. Kandoodhoo) – in the issue of MVR 400,000 stolen from the authority.
Qasim was fired by Immigration for his part in MVR 400,000 being stolen from Foreign Employment Expatriate Section – which he had been assigned to guard.
Qasim filed the suit with Employement Tribunal, saying that he was terminated from his post unlawfully over an incident that he had no power over while he had been serving as Immigration Officer (Level II).
He had asked that he be reassigned to the post.
Employment Tribunal said that state had proved the MVR 400,000 Qasim had been in charge of
looking after was stolen because of negligence on his part. And that it could therefore not be said that he was terminated from his post unlawfully.
The robbery was reported to police in October, 2015.
It is not clear if the sole arrest made in the case was an employee of Immigration or not.
