Maldives United Opposition (MUO) has said that the former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb was sentenced to ten years in prison based on an unfair trial.
The statement issued by the opposition tonight following the ten-year sentence to Adheeb on terrorism last night, said that Adheeb was robbed of a just trial assured to every citizen by the Maldivian Constitution.
The statement said that major issued noted by many regarding the justice system was seen on Adheeb’s trial as well.
According to the statement, President of the Opposition Coalition and the first Vice President of the Yameen Presidency, Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed said that the trial went on without the least amount of evidence to prove a criminal case against someone.
Former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb has been sentenced to ten years in prison by the Criminal Court for possession of two pistols and explosives after three people gave closed testimonies saying that the former Vice President had two pistols and explosives at his apartment at Galolhu Humasheege. One of the three witnesses said that Adheeb had a pistol and explosives at his apartment at Rehendhi Flat.
No defence witnesses were presented at the trail on behalf of Adheeb.
