15-day remand for minors arrested in Irushan’s murder

Criminal Court has granted a 15-day remand period for the two minors arrested in the murder of 14-year-old Ahmed Irushan Hilmy (Ranfaru, K. Kaashidhoo) last Friday.

Friday saw the death of two 14-year-old boys in stabbings in Male’.

Police have not yet made any arrests in the second stabbing – a revenge attack for the earlier attack – which resulted in the death of Faathir Mohamed Ali (M. Sarumaage) – who police have confirmed had actively participated in the first attack which took place in the corner of Shaheed

Ali Hingun and Majeedhi Magu at around 5:45 on Friday evening.

Police held a press conference regarding the murders on Sunday, in which they said they attributed Friday’s violence to a disagreement between two groups – Eagles and Vai Kanmathi – on Friday morning which escalated and took a violent turn.

Police said that members of Vai Kanmathi were in a truck on Friday evening when they were ambushed by members of Eagles.

Irushan – who succumbed to injuries sustained during the attack – had a one-and-a-half inch

deep stab wound on his neck.

Police said that CCTV footage showed Faathir had been on his way out of his home on Friday night when two individuals were seen coming in through the door.

One of the individuals is a minor who is seen taking a knife from under his shorts and stabbing Fathir.

Fathir is stabbed again as he tries to escape the attackers and run up the stairs.

Most of the individuals involved in the fatal stabbings are minors.
