One injured after speedboat carrying tourists catches fire

A speedboat travelling with tourists near Biyadhoo Island Resort caught fire on Saturday.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Information Officer Adnan Mohamed informed “Sun” that the incident was reported to them at around 1:20 pm.

And that a Fire and Rescue team had been dispatched to deal with the incident.

Adnan said that all passengers onboard the boat had been rescued by officials from Biyadhoo Resort. And that they were also working on putting out the fire.

Police said that eight Chinese tourists and a Maldivian man was onboard the boat at the time of the fire.

Police said that the tourists suffered no injuries in the fire, but that the Maldivian man was hurt.
