19 arrested in crackdown after 2 fatal stabbings

Police arrested 19 people in a special operation after two fatal stabbings rocked the capital, Male’ City, on Friday.

A police media official reported that eight of the people were arrested from M. Jade, seven of the people from H. Dhoohimerige, and four people from M. Lonumidhilige.

They were all arrested under court order.

Police are yet to release details of the allegations against them.

The two murdered in stabbings on Friday were both 14 years of age.

Ahmed Irusham Hilmy (K. Kaashidhoo) was stabbed in a gang fight which took place in the corner of Majeedhee Magu – Shaheed Ali Hingun at around 5:45 pm.

He succumbed to death while receiving treatment at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital at 7:45 pm.

The hospital said that he had deep stab wounds on the right side of his neck.

The second 14-year-old, who “Sun” has been informed is Faathir Mohamed Ali (M. Sharumaage), was stabbed while in his home at around 10:05 pm.

He was immediately rushed to IGMH Operation Theater but succumbed to the injuries.

The hospital said that he had three stab wounds on the left side of his back.

Police set up multiple checkpoints in Male’ and questioned and checked anyone who spiked their suspicion in the special operation they ran, after the tragic series of gang violence.
