Police begin special operation after surge in gang violence

Maldives Police Service has begun a special operation in Malé City following the series of gang violence.

Today alone, two 14-year-olds were killed in two separate instances of gang violence this evening and tonight.

One of them died while undergoing treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) after being stabbed in the neck at the junction of Majeedhee Magu and Shaheed Ali Hingun around 5:45 p.m.

The second by died in treatment at IGMH after being wounded with a sharp object tonight in a fight at M. Sharumaage around 10:05 p.m.

Police Media Official said that the biggest priority in the special operation that began tonight would be to find the people involved in the two attacks today.

The Police Media Official said that checkpoints would be established across the city and suspicious people would be questioned and those that need to be arrested would be taken into custody.

Police said that the investigations of the two attacks today are being investigated as serious cases.
