A man has started treatment for Decompression Sickness after diving for fishing bait.
The 32-year-old Mohamed Afrah from Gaafu Dhaalu Gadhdhoo is being treated after he made four dives for bait.
MNDF said that the man dived to a depth of 30-46 meters four times today.
After treatment at G.Dh. Gadhdhoo Health Center, the helicopter “Kurangi” from the MNDF Southern Area Command is currently transporting the man from Gadhdhoo to Shangri La Villingili Resort to put him in the decompression chamber at the resort.
The Gadhdhoo Health Center told Sun Media that the man was brought in around 11:15 a.m. this morning the doctors advised to transport him to Addu Atoll due to the severity of his condition.
Decompression Sickness is condition that results when too rapid decompression causes nitrogen bubbles to form in the tissues of the body. It can cause pain in the muscles and joints, cramp, numbness, nausea, paralysis and death.
