Passengers rescued after speedboat to Veymandhoo capsizes

Passengers on board a speedboat travelling from Th. Madifushi to Th. Veymandhoo have been rescued after the boat capsized on Tuesday.

Police said that the incident was reported to them near 12 pm.

The speedboat bad started it’s trip to Veymandhoo at 9:30 am, and capsized near uninhabited island – Kanimeedhoo – which lies near Veymandhoo.

The four passengers onboard the boat had swum towards the reef of Kanimeedhoo after the boat capsized, and were rescued from there by police.

Police said that the four passengers had suffered injuries from the incident – but nothing serious.

The passengers were rescued and taken to Veymandhoo.

Police said that from what they had found out so far, the boat seems to have capsized due to bad weather conditions.

Police, the owner of the boat, and citizens of Veymandhoo are currently working on towing the boat and taking it to Veymandhoo.
