Maldives Police Service has said that they would be conducting a special operation for the next three days in the Malé area starting tonight.
Police said that the operation was targeted to this weekend since there is an extra public holiday making it a three-day weekend.
This Sunday is International Worker’s Day, also known as Labor Day in some countries.
Head of the Central Operations Command of the Maldives Police Service, Assistant Commissioner, Ismail Naveen said that designated locations and vehicles would be searched in Vilimalé, Hulhumalé and Malé City during the course of the operation.
And so, speeding vehicles would be stopped and searched via established checkpoints. And aimless people out late at night would be questioned and searched.
Assistant Commissioner Naveen said that tonight’s operation is part of the continual effort to dissolve the crime and ensure the safety of the general public.
