A 28-year-old Maldivian man has been arrested from Maldives over the murder of Hussein Razeen (Rabarey) in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Deputy Head of Crime Investigation Command, Chief Superintendent of Police Mohamed Riyaz said that the man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon based on investigation being carried out into the case by Maldives Police Service.
“Investigation into those connected to Hussein Razeen’s murder in Maldives at the moment is being carried out in collaboration with Sri Lankan police,” said Riyaz.
A team from MPS had gone to Lanka and worked with Sri Lankan police in the case.
Maldivian national, Rabarey – a notorious former gangster - was murdered on November 5, 2015; his dead body found in an abandoned paddy field near Tumbovila Bridge in Piliyandala.
Sri Lankan newspaper Sunday Times, quoting Sri Lankan police, reported that a Maldivian identified by the name – Bilal – who was arrested by Lankan police had said that he had killed
Rabarey for a contract of MVR 14 million.
Bilal – who was an acquaintance of Rabarey – was contracted by an unidentified Maldivian businessman who had tried to kill Rabarey himself to avenge his brother’s murder.
Sri Lankan police have found the knife used to murder Rabarey, as well as the van used to transport him.
Both Bilal and the Sri Lankan van driver who assisted Bilal are under arrest by Sri Lankan police.
