Former President of the Maldives, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has criticized the British Prime Minister, David Cameron for meeting with the Ex-President, Mohamed Nasheed who is in London for medical treatment.
In an interview with India’s Economic Times, President Gayoom said that he does not know what kind of message Cameron is sending to the world by meeting with a person accused of a crime.
"I can't believe what is going on there (in London). The (British) PM is meeting him, an accused. What kind of message the PM is sending across the world?"Gayoom asked.
He also criticized President Nasheed for misusing the opportunity given to him for medical treat and using the occasion for political purposes and damaging the image of the country.
Former President Maumoon is New Delhi to deliver a lecture on "Islam - A religion of peace" at Delhi-based think tank Observer Research Foundation.
