A man who smuggled drugs into H. Dh. Kulhudhuffushi through H. Dh. Nolhivaram ferry has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined MVR 50,000.
The man is Ahmed Sabah from Taj in Kulhudhuffushi.
He was sentenced by Kulhudhuffushi Court on Monday.
The charge against him had read that police has arrested Sabah and transported him to the police station when he got off the ferry from Nolhivaram to Kulhudhuffushi on the morning of April 21, 2014. And that police had found drugs inside a cigarette pack that lay near where he had been sitting when they attempted to get him out of the vehicle and into the police station.
Kulhudhuffushi Court had ruled that Sabah had plead guilty to the charge.
He has been ordered to pay the fine to the court within three months.
