MNDF is on alert for a situation where the communications could be down due to a tsunami. And regarding this, for any rescue operation in any region of the country, the Coast Guard is on alert. And in such a situation to provide medical assistance, we are fully prepared.
Although some countries have cancelled tsunami alters, we are trying to monitor this before cancelling. We request everyone to stay vigilant. Before, in the 2004 tsunami, this region was most affected. But this time we are, so far, outside the danger zone.
All necessary steps regarding the Yellow Alert for a possible tsunami following the earthquake is being taken. And the Government is observing things closely. Regarding this, all information would be delivered to the people.
There is no threat of a tsunami at this time. And no country in the Maldives region has received a tsunami warning. If such a danger was impending on the Maldives, we assure that information would be relayed to the people immediately.
Unlikely that Maldives would affect the Maldives. But still some countries have not lifted their Yellow Alerts.
Yellow Alert will not be lifted until confirmation of no tsunami. And so advise that the people stay vigilant.
No indication of elevated sea levels at any part of the Maldives so far.
National Disaster Management Center is making the necessary preparations. At this time, the people should be aware to get information about this through media.
If a tsunami is expected, we’ll change to Red Alert. And for that MNDF is fully prepared. But with God’s Will, so far there have been no indications of a tsunami.
