President: Case of arresting a judge in Nasheed’s presidency ended lightly

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that the case regarding the arrested of a Judge during the Presidency of Mohamed Nasheed ended too lightly.

Speaking at the inauguration of the H.A. Utheem Harbor, President Yameen said that there must be Generals that ordered the arrest of the Judge and, he believes that, they must be investigated.

“…I wonder, after the things that happened during President Nasheed’s reign on February 6 and 7 and the things that took place between the police and military back then, should it have ended so lightly. A Judge was captured and arrested. Surely there would be generals that gave the command for that. We don’t see any steps being taken against them. I don’t think it should go so lightly.” The President said.

And said that the generals involved can be investigated and it can only be written in the Maldivian history after investigation.

Criticizing the former President Nasheed, President Yameen said that if he is innocent, President Nasheed should be returning to the country.

“…if he is innocent, he (President Nasheed) should return quickly. Now we know a spine surgery is not necessary. Just need an injection. Should he not return after the injection? Return and serve the Maldivian people. And meet with use and to improve things give us instruction and advice.” President Yameen said.
