Trial on IED outside Muliaage case to be held behind closed doors

Press and public are to be barred from the trial of the four people who have been charged with terrorism for allegedly attempting to detonate and explosive outside Muliaage.

The four suspects who are being prosecuted by State in the case are, Ahmed Mamdhooh from H. A. Hoarafushi, Mohamed Ubaid Ibrahim from M. Hero in Male’ City, Zihan Ahmed from Th. Thimarafushi and Tholath Mohamed from H. Mitarz in Male’ City.

Mamdhooh has been charged with making an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), and plating it on top of the battery of a truck parked in Nooraanee Goalhi near Muliagee – a criminal offense under Anti-Terror Act.

Ubaid, Zihan and Tholath have been charged with being accessories to the crime.

The IED was discovered near Muliaage in the evening of November 2, 2015.

It was transported to Mafannu Stadium and disabled by Maldives National Defense Force officers as soon as it was discovered.

Home Minister Umar Naseer said in an earlier press conference that the IED was planted in a deliberate attempt to assassinate President Abdulla Yameen.
