Trial of the Muliaage IED case to begin tomorrow Criminal Court has scheduled the first hearing in the case of the IED discovered near the President’s Official Residence, “Muliaage” for 10 a.m. tomorrow.
The state is pursuing charges against Ahmed Mamdhooh (H.A. Hoarafushi), Mohamed Ubaid Ibrahim (Malé City), Zihan Ahmed (Th. Thimarafushi) and Tholhath Mohamed (Malé City).
An IED was discovered near the President’s Residence on 2 November 2015.
Upon discovery, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) took the device to the Maafannu Stadium where it was defused.
Home Minister Umar Naseer at the time said that it was an attempt to assassinate the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
