National Inquiry Commission (NIC) has said that they are investigating the fire onboard the speed boat going to Club Med Kani (Kanifinolhu) Resort with 24 people.
Speaking at the NIC press conference this morning, Home Minister Umar Naseer said that they are investigating the fire to see if engine of the launch was set on fire on purpose or not or an explosion was set off. He did not give any further details on that case.
“On September 26, while traveling from Hulhulé, around 1:15 (p.m.) a fire started on a launch and tourists were burned. If it was an explosion or happened by accident, we are looking into it.” Home Minister said.
In the incident that took place last September, a number of tourists sustained burns and were treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and ADK Hospital. The tourists who got burned in the incident were from China, Bangladesh, India and Japan.
