Suspects in the attempted bombing near Presidential Residence ordered into Prison

Criminal Court has ordered that the four suspects charged with terrorism following the discovery of an IED near the President’s official residence be moved to prison until the end of their trials.

The four suspects in the case are, Zihan Ahmed, Th. Thimarafushi, Ahmed Mamdhooh, H.A. Hoarafushi, Mohamed Ubaid and Tholhath Mohamed of Malé City.

An official from the PG Office said that one of the four suspects is charged with committing an act of terrorism while others are charged as accessories.

An IED was discovered near the Presidential Residence on 2 November 2015.

Upon the discovery, MNDF defused the IED after taking it to the Maafannu Stadium.

Home Minister Umar Naseer said that the IED was planted in the area to assassinate the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
