A generator in Kanduhulhudhoo burns down

80 kilowatt generator used to power G. A. Kanduhulhudhoo caught fire and burned down in the early hours of Wednesday.

A member of Kanduhulhudhoo Island Council who spoke to “Sun” said that the incident occurred at around 3:20 am.

He said that the generator had burned beyond repair, and that electricity was restored to the whole island by 3:45 am. However, the whole island is now being powered by the remaining 128 kilowatt generator.

“Electricity is now being provided through a 128 kilowatt generator. It’s the only generator there now. The whole island will go into blackout if it overloads,” said the council member.

The council member said that it was yet unclear what has caused the fire, and that police were investigating the case.

He said that a team from Fenaka Corporation was scheduled to arrive in Kanduhulhudhoo to investigate the case as well.
