Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor has denied the terror charge against him for allegedly possessing a pistol.
Charges were pressed against Adeeb after two people claimed to have been shown two pistols and three bullets by Adeeb when they visited his younger wife’s home – G. Humashi – while the opposition protest was ongoing on May 1, 2015.
During the hearing held on Monday, State prosecutor said that the pistols were kept inside a transparent bad inside a backpack.
The prosecutor said that Adeeb had shown the two witnesses the pistols and boasted that Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) supporters could not harm him. And had requested with them to inform him if things escalated during the protest.
Meanwhile, defense attorney Moosa Siraj said that such a charge could not be pressed upon based on heresy. And that High Court and Supreme Court had established that rule.
State prosecution provided three people as witnesses after Adeeb plead innocent to the charge.
Two of the witnesses claim to have seen the pistols on May 1, 2015 and one witness claimed to have seen the pistols on another occasion.
Siraj said that defense had no witnesses to testify on their behalf.
The next hearing on the case will be held on March 6.
