President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that there is no reason to question him regarding the missing MVR 1.22 billion through Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) about the islands and lagoons leased for development.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the N. Kudafari harbor today, President Yameen said that the investigations by the state regarding the treasonous embezzlement of MMPRC have now been finished.
The President responded to the allegations of his involvement in the MMPRC case.
President Yameen said that the rumors about the money from MMPRC going to the President, the First Lady and PPM through SOF Pvt. Ltd. do not make any sense.
“If running for presidency up to the vote of the people bringing big projects like this, my conscious does not allow me to stop. Even as President, in that MMPRC’ (treasonous) corruption I have no hand in it.” President Abdulla Yameen said.
As the biggest corruption case in Maldivian history came to light, President Yameen said today that the banks were negligent. The President said that such a major embezzlement was made easier because some bank staff were involved.
“When money travels through a bank, to observe the banks activities, the President’s Office or the Auditor General won’t go. Or the ACC won’t check either. That would be known when we do an audit when we know a wrong has been done.” President Abdulla Yameen said.
President Yameen said that if the people doing it are committing fraud, no matter how strong a system is established, the corruption would take place.
After the MP for South Galolhu constituency, Ahmed Mahloof accused the President and the First Lady storing large amounts of money in their accounts at the State Bank of India (SBI), President Yameen responded to those allegations as well.
The President said that he does not have an account at SBI.
“SBI is, never have I had an account at SBI. So why would money be at an SBI account? So 13 million or 9 million or 2 million, this is not the question. Where do I have an SBI account? Find it for me.” President Yameen said.
Indicating to the case of the forged court order to arrest the President being investigated by the Police, President Yameen said that he got a copy of the forged court order for his arrest and it was prepared for him to be arrested for the MMPRC case being investigated by the Police.
“That court order says that regarding the MMPRC case being investigated by the Police, the name of the case is said. Someone investigating the case is put down and saying that regarding the case, the Police wants a temporary court order to arrest President Yameen.” President Yameen said.
“From the Police to arrest President Yameen, with God’s Will, I won’t be a catalyst. People who do things like this is in Maldives.”
