Thinadhoo: No epidemic yet, 23 doctors on alert

G. Dh. Thinadhoo hospital has said that no health issues have arisen yet due to the electricity outage the island has been suffering from since Monday night, after a fire burned the island’s powerhouse to the ground; and that the hospital was ready to deal with any health issue that may arise with 23 doctors on alert.

Manager of Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital, Hussein Rasheed spoke to “Sun” on Thursday and said that no health issues had been noticed despite the dire conditions the people of Thinadhoo were in.

“There is no epidemic. We are inspecting all shops, restaurants and hotels. We have not noticed anything like that,” said Hussein.

Hussein said that the hospital was prioritizing patients that came in states of emergency, and that majority of patients who came to the hospital were suffering from common ailments.

He said that the 23 doctors and the rest of the staff of the hospital were on alert to deal with any emergency that may arise.

“Public Service Unit officials are prepared to deal with what may come up. Our staff are cooperating very well, any given time,” said Hussein.

Hospital has advised all households to dispose of all food items that need to be refrigerated, and to eat fresh fish and not fish that may be lying inside the refrigerator.

Small generators have been sent to Thinadhoo hospital to power the place but households still remain without electricity.
