Former Vice President and Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor has been transferred from Dhoonidhoo to Maafushi Prison.
Maldives Corrections Service media official informed “Sun” that Adeeb was transported to Maafushi Prison under orders from Criminal Court during Wednesday night.
The move comes after Adeeb – who is 5 foot 9 inches tall - complained that he had only a 2 foot “bed” to sleep on in his cell in Dhoonidhoo.
Adeeb made the complaint during the hearing of the civil lawsuit he pressed against authorities saying that he was being treated unfairly on the issue of family visitations.
When the judge questioned whether Adeeb was being treated unfairly, the lawyer from Attorney General’s Office said that they needed to clarify it with the police.
The hearing ended with State being allowed time to prepare an answer.
Adeeb has asked that he be allowed the same incentives provided by Maldives Police Service to all politicians who are kept under police custody for suspected criminal activity, and that he be allowed the same visitation rights as the rest.
