State Trading Organization (STO) released ready-mix cement to the market on Wednesday.
STO ready-mix cement was officially released into the market by Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen during the MACI Build and Home Expo which started on Wednesday at Dharubaaruge.
There are 49 stalls in the expo, which will continue until Friday.
Speaking during the opening ceremony, Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that
Maldivian construction industry had made huge progress within the past 2-year period.
He said that STO was the first company to be given land to prepare ready-mix cement, and that land would be provided in future to private companies that also wanted to venture into the business.
Muizzu said that it would start in full-swing once work on Industrial Village is complete within this year.
He said that ready-mix cement business would also be expanded into Hulhumale’ in the future.
President Yameen was awarded the highest honor given by MACI during the ceremony.
Construction companies, architecture firms, interior design firms as well as businesses that supplied furniture are participating in the expo.
Looking into history of construction industry in Maldives, Aima Construction started ready-mix cement business in the 2000’s, but later stopped.
