Telecom company Ooredoo is to provide a generator to power Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital in G. Dh. Thinadhoo, after a fire burned down the island’s powerhouse on late Monday night, plunging the whole island into darkness.
Ooredoo said that they had started work on taking a backup generator in their Thinadhoo site to the hospital.
The company has also made arrangements at different points in the island where residents can charge their phones.
Meanwhile, Dhiraagu is also providing similar services by making arrangements at different points in the island from where residents can charge their phones, in addition to donating a generator.
Other major companies that have come to the rescue include Maldivian and MIFCO.
Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation has said that it would take two months to provide a permanent solution to the problem.
Thinadhoo Powerhouse had a 1,000 kilowatt generator, a 720 kilowatt generator and a 600 kilowatt generator – all damaged beyond repair from the fire.
