Fenaka Corporation has said that it was not likely the fire which burned down G. Dh. Thinadhoo Powerhouse beyond repair late Monday night was a result of a problem that stemmed from the powerhouse.
The fire left the powerhouse an empty shell, leaving people of Thinadhoo without any electricity or water.
It is believed that the fire originated from a storeroom next to the engine room.
Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation, Mohamed Nimal said that it was most likely the fire was not a result of any problem with the powerhouse.
“From the information I have received from our staff, it is not likely a fire could have resulted from any fault within powerhouse,” said Nimal.
When asked whether someone had deliberately set fire to the powerhouse, Nimal said that he could not make any comment on that yet, and that the cause for the fire would be found out once the investigation was complete.
Nimal said that the corporation was evaluating the extent of damage to the powerhouse from the fire.
Electricity from Thinadhoo Powerhouse was generated from a 1,000 kilowatt generator, a 720 kilowatt generator and a 600 kilowatt generator.
All three generators were damaged beyond repair in the fire.
The person in charge of running Thinadhoo Powerhouse, Muhaimin Hussein said that the place was diligently looked after.
