Media reports defaming President to be investigated

President’s Office has filed a complaint with relevant authorities to investigate media reports of a USD 500,000 cheque transferred to President Abdulla Yameen’s bank account.

President’s Office Spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali spoke to “Sun” on Sunday and said that media stations had reported that a USD 500,000 cheque that should have gone to Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) had gone instead to President Yameen’s bank account. And that President’s Office had filed a complaint over the reports defaming

President Yameen to relevant authorities.

Muaz said that such defamatory accusations directed at President would not be ignored by the government.

He said that though the government, as a general rule, did not place restrictions on media; false reports would however be investigated.
