Police commence investigation into woman

Police have commenced the investigation into the case of a woman who was found dead in Hdh. Neykurandhoo last April.

Police said today that it is likely that she was murdered.

Fathimath Zakariyya of Ranvil, Neykurandhoo, was found dead in her home on 15 April. None of her children were in the island when she was found.

President of Neykurandhoo Council Adam Nazim said that she was found by a Council member, who visited her home following a request by her family to check on her as they had had no news from her for a long time.

Nazim said that the last people had seen of her was that that day at around sunset.

He informed the Police upon finding her, and she was buried after she had been checked by doctors.

Police said that the investigation into this case so far has revealed that she was murdered, but did not give further details.

Sun has been informed that the Police have arrested one person, and are searching for another person associated with this murder.

When Fathimath was found, her wardrobe had been messed with; and her jewellery, money, and phone were missing.

A person from Neykurandhoo said that Fathimath was in good health, and that no injuries were apparent on her body when she was found.

Police are also investigating the death of a 65 year old man who was found dead with his legs tied, in a house in N. Maafaru. On the same day, a 16 year old boy was found stabbed to death in Lorenzo Park in Male’.

Earlier this year, a 70 year old was brutally murdered in Dh. Kudahuvadhoo; and last year, an elderly man was murdered in Ha. Hoarafushi.
