The four people that were arrested in connection to the IED found near the Presidential Residence “Muliaage” on 2 November has been remanded for a fifth time.
A media official of the Police told Sun Media today that two of the four people they arrested in the case got their remand extended by the Criminal Court by 15 days on Wednesday.
The official said that the two got their remand extended by ten days at the Criminal Court yesterday.
All four people arrested in the case are above the age of 18.
Home Minister Umar Naseer has previously said that the IED plant on the truck parked near the Presidential Residence was to assassinate the President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom.
Minister Umar said that the road where the IED was planted is frequented by the President.
The IED was defused by the MNDF after taking it to the stadium area upon discovery.
Captain Ali Ihsaan of the MNDF previously said that had the IED exploded near the Muliaage area, a number of houses would be destroyed and some people could’ve lost their lives.
After the incident, the government has declared the area near the Presidential Residence as a no parking area.
