Teenage accident victim came to Maldives to celebrate birthday

Family of the Malaysian girl who died in the tragic marine accident near K. Maafushi involving speedboat and a dive boat said that she had come to Maldives to celebrate her 16th birthday.

The tragedy took the life of Vivian and her mother, just 6 days short of her birthday.

Vivian’s mother – Nicole – had posted on Facebook the day of the tragedy saying that they were on their way for a dive – and that it was a promise she had made to her daughter.

A Singaporean newspaper reported that Vivian had just finished grade 8 in Royal School of Music, and had been preparing to study for a diploma in music.

She was described as lively and friendly by a teacher.

Family and friends continue to express their sadness over Vivian and Nicole’s death through social media, while Vivian’s father – who is in Maldives at the moment – tries to make arrangements to ship the bodies of his wife and daughter to Singapore.

The accident had occurred on December 17.

There were 6 people onboard the dive boat and four people onboard the speedboat when the accident took place.

No one else suffered serious injuries.
