Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that the artificial beach on the west side of Male City would be opened in January with barbeque area.
Speaking to the press on his visit to the construction site of the artificial beach this evening, Minister Dr. Muizzu said that aside from an area for barbeques, two fishing platforms, showers and toilet facilities would be established in the area.
“Malé does not have a barbeque area yet. The north side of the beach would have an area for barbeque.” Dr. Muizzu said.
He said that a large portion of the outer seawall has been completed now and sand is being brought in to the area.
“Then when about one barge of gravel comes, the outer seawall will be completed.” Dr. Muizzu said.
The Housing Minister said that by the end of the project, the roads around the area would also be repaired.
“…Rather than the old road, a very nice, new road. Installing bricks on the road is going very fast now.” Dr. Muizzu said.
Minister Dr. Muizzu said that the pavilion with a large portion of the sea and the overhead bridge is not complete yet because it would take about five months to complete.
“That is very different work. Under it would be toilets and showers and mother care baby areas. And the restaurant as well. And connected to the upper part would be an overhead bridge across the road.” Minister Dr. Muizzu said.
Trees are being planted in the area now.
The project was contracted to MTCC in August.
The MVR 41.5 million project entails deepening a 4,623 square meter area by 3 meters and the construction of a 2,457 meter beach to be completed in four months.
