MMA: Independent 50 currency notes delayed due to ATM software replacement

Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has said that the scheduled launch of the Independent 50 currency notes for this month is being delayed due the process of changing the ATM software.

A statement from the MMA said that they are working with the banks in the Maldives to launch the new currency notes.

MMA said that a change to the software has to be made with deposit, withdrawal and cash handling ATMs and it is something that is done abroad.

And so the launching has been delayed and the new launch date is 26 January.

MMA said that the use of ATM for deposits and withdrawals are high in among the Maldivian people and if ATMs cannot use the new note series, people have a lot of troubles.
