Mariyam Habeeb has been removed from her post as member of Haa Dhaalu Nolhivaram by a no-confidence vote.
Vice President of Nolhivaram Council Abdulla Shareef told Sun Media that Mariyam was removed for obstructing public services and violating the Decentralisation Act.
He did not specify which public services she obstructed, but added that she was advised on more than one occasion prior to her dismissal not to act in this manner.
Mariyam belongs to ruling party, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
In addition to Mariyam, Nolhivaram Council consists of one more PPM member, a Jumhooree Party (JP) member, and two Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) members.
