The launch captain, who was arrested following a collision between a speed launch and a diving boat where two tourists died, has been released.
Information Officer of the Police, Ismail Ali told Sun Media tonight that they arrested the launch captain on the night of the incident. He said that the Criminal Court released the man when he was taken to court for a decision on his remand.
A 16-year-old Malaysian girl and 42-year-old Chinese woman died in the collision near K. Maafushi. Both of them were dead on arrival at Maafushi Hospital.
The incident took place on Thursday night around 6:30 p.m. The two vessels involved in the collision sustained major damages.
There were four people on board the speed launch when it collided with the diving boat, on which six people were on board.
No one suffered any major injuries in the collision other than the two people that died.
