61.7 mm rainfall within two hours in Mal

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that Malé experienced 61.7mm, one of the highest recently, of rainfall on Thursday night.

Referring to the success of the government’s project to improve the drain system in Malé, Dr Muizzu said on Twitter on Friday morning that the water was drained in three hours – something which previously took up to three days.

Bad weather including heavy rain was experienced across the country on Thursday. Lightning struck Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) causing a power cut, bringing all operations to a halt.

Maldives Meteorological Service has issued Yellow Alert for the region between Haa Dhaalu Atoll and Laamu Atoll.
