MDP and Adhaalath Party have been fined with MVR 75,000 following the protest rally “Minjuvaan” (To be Free).
An official from the Elections Commission told Sun Media today that the two political parties were fined due to unlawful activities within the rally.
While participating children in political protests are illegal, the official said that children were present at the “Minjuvan” protest rally.
The two parties have been previously fined on two previous occasions following protests. And so the two parties were fined following the violence at the political rally on 27 February and 1 May.
Elections Commission said that so far the two parties have not paid the fines. And if they are not paying the fine, it would be deducted from the money given to the political parties next year.
