Former MP Ahmed Nazim, who is serving a 25-year prison sentence after being convicted of fraud, has been granted 15 days of medical parole and departed to Singapore for treatment.
Nazim’s family told Sun Media he will be in Singapore for 15 days.
This comes after Supreme Court annulled an earlier order to hold his passport, as requested by his family and Maldives Corrections Service.
A close aide of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom who has also served as deputy speaker of parliament, Nazim was convicted of fraud in the bidding process for the purchase of 15,000 flags by Ministry of Atolls Administration in 2003.
