President Abdulla Yameen has announced the government’s plans to facilitate working from home for pregnant women who find it difficult to commute to work, from next year onwards.
This came in his speech at a ceremony at Dharubaaruge on Thursday to mark International Human Rights Day 2015.
Highlighting the government’s efforts to protect human rights, President Yameen said that the Constitution of the Maldives guarantees human rights to levels seen in developed countries.
The government prioritises providing assistance to vulnerable groups in the society including people with disabilities, victims of domestic violence, and women; and conducts programs to empower women, the President said.
Referring to people with disabilities, he said that the government works towards facilitating opportunities for people with disabilities to allow them to be independent and engage in constructive occupations.
