Criminal Court has formally accepted the charges embezzlement brought up against the former Managing Director of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Abdulla Ziyath and the charge of misappropriation of Government funds against the former Vice President, Ahmed Adheeb.
The Criminal Court has confirmed this to Sun Media.
Former Vice President was charged with abuse of power for leasing a lagoon in Malé atoll to a foreign company in such a way that paves the road corruption and misappropriating the funds that he received in return.
The new penal code defines misuse of official authority as a class 4 felony and if convicted, the person can be sentenced to four years in prison.
Abdulla Ziyath is also charged with leasing a lagoon in Malé atoll to a foreign company in such a way that paves the road corruption and misappropriate of funds.
If convicted, he could be sentenced up to eight years in prison.
